It's the New Year and golfers are getting back in the swing of things!
This week we have seen a lot of you at The Academy putting some early work in on your game ahead of the 2016 season. When I was an amateur I would always use the early months of the year to assess, improve and develop my skills. Quite simply I would rate the various sections of my game in the following way.
Driving 9/10
Long Second Shots 7/10
Mid Second Shots 8/10
Short Second Shots 9/10
Pitching 8/10
Chipping 9/10
Bunker Play 7/10
Putting 7/10
I would also consider if my problems within the above sections of the game were mainly strike related, direction related or both.
Question of great importance!
How many of you believe it's the same swing for all full shots? From my experience of teaching many many golfers, the trend is to think that it is the same swing for all full shots…And yet some shots we play with the teed up 2" and some on the ground so elements must be different. The one thing that is the same, is that the club up the arc, down an arc and then back up an arc.
Within this arc is the 'Low Point' and this is what needs controlling! Take a minute to google "low point control golf" this will open your eyes! So, ahead of the season why don't we get together and take a look at making your golf better and making the game more enjoyable than ever before!
I would ask you to spend a few minutes to do the same exercise!
What next? Well now it is time to speak with one of your professional staff and discuss how to go about enhancing your performance ahead the 2016 season.
What is the best lesson option for you?
We offer one-to-one tuition for those who feel that is the ideal for them. We are currently coaching 4 ball groups. These are golfers who play together and find learning in a social group works for them using a subject of the game each time they see us.
How about supervised practice?
Come and hit balls with your pals and have a professional on hand to offer tips and pointers. Lesson packages are available and these can be tailored to suit you. Please speak to one of your Pro staff.
Andrew is offering a 10 lesson package for £100. These lessons must be used by the end of March 2016.

Why choose Launch Monitor fittings?
Here is an Interesting read about Launch Monitors like the one I use daily to assist me helping you!
Who should use one?
Any serious golfer, not necessarily just a low handicapper, should look at using a launch monitor. To make the most of your time with one, however, we recommend you let a certified golf instructor interpret the shot data to explain what you should be working on.
Why should a golfer use one?
From a golf swing perspective, a lesson with a professional who has access to a launch monitor will allow the golfer to understand their ball flight better and what they can do to control and improve it. By giving detailed access to parameters such as ball speed and launch angle, instructors are also able to adjust elements during a custom fitting, such as the shaft, to ensure the golfer's clubs match up with their swing. Radar-based launch monitors use a scientific principle called the "Doppler Effect"
How do launch monitors work?
There are two types of launch monitor. One tracks the ball after impact using "Doppler radar" technology, while the other uses camera technology to record the data at impact. Both systems then use their own algorithms to provide a range of data and projections about the shot that has been hit.
What data do they provide?
Doppler radar systems measure ball-flight data and project club data. Camera-based systems measure club data and project ball-flight data. Ball data includes ball speed, launch angle, launch direction, spin axis, spin rate, smash factor (efficiency of the transfer of energy from the club to the ball), height, carry distance, total distance, landing angle and hang time.
Club data comprises club speed, attack angle, club path, swing plane, swing direction, dynamic loft (amount of loft on the club face at impact), spin loft, face angle and face-to-path.
