2017 Vice Captain Announced - A Popular Choice!
Last Saturday we played the closing sides match under a new format of shotgun start and dine upon completion of the round. I have heard so many positive comments from members about the new format which is very pleasing to hear.
Traditionally this event sees the Past Captain's recommendation of the new Vice Captain. Our current Captain John Fletcher did the honours and revealed that Steve Smith will be the 2017 Vice Captain. Steve is a long standing member and has served on council and been house chairman. Steve is a strong supporter of the club, sponsoring festival week and is part of our partner scheme sponsoring the 2nd hole with his business, Eldon Street Garage.
Congratulations Steve!
Take Advantage of the full course whilst it lasts
I am sure that you have all heard that the greens committee have postponed the fairway protection measures whilst the dry conditions continue.
Historically on November 1st each year we move onto a short course, mats or move the ball to the side. However as we find ourselves in a run of dry weather and good ground conditions this has been delayed for a maximum of 4 weeks so enjoy it whilst it lasts.
We would like you to encourage friends and guests to join you to enjoy the current course conditions and keep valuable green fee revenue coming into the club.
Don't forget - Winter wheels are compulsory now and please put your divots back and repair all pitch marks and any other you may see!

Coaching Column
Many of you have asked about me adding some little tips to my newsletter so this is a new feature that each week will see my thoughts on how to fix some of the regular problems golfers encounter.
SLICERS, THIS IS A MUST READ!
For a slicer of the ball our course puts horror into the minds of many with holes 2, 3, 4 having trouble down the right.
All slicers of a ball that I have ever spoken with would love to draw the ball "yes you are saying to yourself"
So, can you make a football curve right to left?
Can you make a football curve left to right?
Hopefully this is YES!
Do you approach the football from the same direction when bending it the different ways? NO!
So the point on the ball that we strike must influence shot shape? YES!
So, on the picture above you can see the ball split into segments and I will ask you to focus on the inside quadrant, marked with a green tick.
Set up to the ball as normal but in the downswing you need to ensure that your club head is travelling towards the GREEN TICK QUADRANT. If you can do this then your club path will be more likely to be from an inside approach, that's the one we need to draw a ball and kill the slice.

Distance is KING! Getting additional distance on a tee shot is highly sought after in golf. Adding distance isn't easy, but the FlightScope Driver Optimizer will give us an insight on what data parameters need to be adjusted to get the most out of a player's drive.
