I had the pleasure of spending some time with Keith Hutton earlier this week. Keith wanted to compare his current Cobra AMP irons aginst some of the latest irons available.
Keith was swinging well and getting a lovely strike. As with most golfers, Keith wanted to see if any distance gains were on offer with the new irons.
Distance gains he got………… With the NEW Callaway Steelhead iron and the PING G irons topping the pile.
You can see the shot data below in the Flightscope screen shot.
Ball speed gains = Distance Gain
Bryson fills the gaps with fitted wedges
Bryson had a very interesting gapping session with me last week and will be hoping for more silverware in 2017.
Concerns of too big a gap in distance between his PW and GAP Wedge needed fixing. Current wedge set up:
- Mizuno MP5 PW 46* = 129 yards
- Mizuno tour wedges 52* = 110 yards & 58* = 88 yards
New wedge configuration:
- Mizuno MP5 46* = 129 yards
- Cleveland RTX3 Black Pearl 50* 54* and 58*
- Giving distances of 117, 102 and 88
4* loft gaps so better distance control when we get on the course.
The New Cleveland wedges are beautiful and a big improvement on the previous model, but how does RTX-3 help you get closer?
New technology shifting the centre of gravity to a more centred position in the wedge, along with shortening the nosel improves the feel and tightens the shot dispertion giving you maximum control. 3 options on the V-Shaped sole grinds allow more leading edge bounce to get through the turf faster for impact, increasing a more consistent head speed, spin and control.
If you want to check your wedge lofts, need gapping for your wedges or need some help with your short game book a session with me now by

Short Game Tip Do you Duff, Thin & Fat your wedges?
The above shots are all very common and even the best golfers can suffer at times. Strike quality within the short game is all down to angle of attack. The club moves in an arc shape, tracking down towards the ground, into low point of arc then upwards away from the ground.
Correct strike is achieved by the club tracking downwards at connection point.
If you FAT a chip, it is not because you are too steep. Here is an idea for you to try:
Stand on one leg with the ball located opposite the left instep and make some small, mid and long shipping strokes. I think you will find this helps.
Then but both feet on the ground but have the sensation of the one legged weight distribution.
