Back from a few days golfing in Portugal with a group of members

Myself and 7 members popped over to Portugal for a long weekends golfing and were blessed with glorious sunshine.

We stayed at the Crown Plaza in Vilamoura and I would highly recommend this hotel if you were looking for accomodation.

A modern interior, spacious rooms, excellent food, great location and very friendly staff.

We played 3 rounds of golf at -

Rd 1 Pinhal - A traditional tree lined course which played rather long with the stiff breeze. I had played this course some 20 years ago so couldn't remember to much about it. A good layout with strong demands from the tee, good greens and lovely clubhouse with a nice terrace overlooking the practice area.

Rd 2 Villa Sol - A former home of the Portugese Masters and one of the most popular courses on the Algarve comprising of 3 nines. We played the original two nines which in my opinion are the best. This course demands accuracy from the tee and offers superb putting surfaces.

Rd 3 Victoria - The home of the Portugese Masters and this was my first time of playing this course. I find it a great experience playing a course that I've seen so much of on TV. This venue is special! A super course with plenty of room off the tee but very long. The demands here are upon the second shot and around the greens. The putting surfaces were the quickest greens I have ever played on and at times made me look pretty stupid. If you are visiting Portugal, I would strongly recommend you book a round at this course, it really is 10/10.

New Year = New Products

As I embark on my 20th year at PGC I am excited as always at this time of year about all the new arrivals in store that are going to help my members enjoy their golf .

So, I thought I would take this opportunity to share with you some detail of the suppliers that I am selecting for 2017 and we have some NEW ones! There is a real buzz around the equipment product launches this year with some outstanding performers.

At PGC we will have all the demo kit and demo days that will allow you to test and get fitted by your professionals.

Over the coming weeks I will feature certain brands to help raise product awareness and benefits.

Hardware for 2017 at PGC:

Callaway

Callaway Epic

Increased Distance from Jailbreak Technology Innovative new technology changes how the head and face behave at impact to promote more speed across a larger area of the face for increased average distance.

PING

One of my leading brands have just launched the i200 iron and I hit it this week. WOW! This club is amazing with great looks and a feel of the face that I have never experianced from a PING iron. Come and try it now in store.

Precision distance with horizontal and vertical trajectory control in a slim, appealing shape distinguish the soft, 431 stainless steel i200 irons.

High-launching, distance-generating long irons and compact, precise short irons give you full command of your shot making with unprecedented feel and forgiveness.

NEW TaylorMade

I am super excited about this brand for 2017. 3 years have passed since I last stocked the products. TaylorMade will no longer be launching 6 drivers each year so for me, I can now work with the brand.

The new M1 and M2 family of metals offer amazing looks and performance with lots of setting options to assist fit the club properly for your game.

All New M1 - Complete Personalisation

New T-Track System A redesigned T-Track system with more moveable weight and a longer back track allows for 64% more front-to-back CG movement than the original M1. Adjust the front track (15g) modify left-to-right trajectory and move the back track (12g) forward for lower ball flight and more distance, or adjust it farther back for higher ball flight and more forgiveness.

New Ultra-Lightweight Loft Sleeve 4° aluminum Loft Sleeve features 12 easily adjustable settings to dial in your loft and face angle without going to a golf shop.

Three Premium Stock Shafts and 30+ No-Upcharge Shaft Offerings Fujikura Pro XLR8 56 (high launch) Mitsubishi Kuro Kage Silver Dual-Core TiNi 60 (mid launch) Project X HZRDUS Yellow 65 (low launch)

All New M2 - Geocoustic Technology

The new Geocoustic feature combines geometry and acoustical engineering to unlock more forgiveness and best-in-class sound. The new breakthrough in geometry comes from the sunken sole portion of the driver. This section utilizes ultra-light, thick-thin 9-1-1 Titanium-a design that enabled engineers to free up volume without raising the center of gravity.

The breakthrough in acoustical engineering was achieved by the new sunken sole curvature, making it stiffer and easier to manage vibrations caused at impact. With this added stiffness, minimal externalized sound ribs were needed to create best-in-class sound and feel of the M2.

I will feature the next 3 brands and their launches in next weeks newsletter:

- Mizuno
- Titleist
- Cobra
