Competition news

J C Heys finishes in a tie

After a fine first round of 65 by Nigel Given, he slipped down the leaderboard in round two and steady scoring from the following 3 players brought them together in a tie.

1 - Parkinson, Robert - 71 68 - 139
2 - Driscoll, Graham - 69 70 - 139
3 - Byrom, David - 68 71 - 139

Most recently Rob Parkinson joined the many golfers moving to the Callaway Epic driver. The club has been in the bag for 1 month and I'm hearing great reports about the benefits this club has given him.

We have demo's drivers in the EPIC for you to try so pop in and book your FREE FITTING and let's get some added yards on your drive

Well done to all three players on their scores!

Coaching news

Do you have bunker blues?

I assure you, there is nothing wrong with our bunkers - Just ask Anwoir Essa.

This week I had a very interesting chat with one of our single figure handicap golfers. He was telling me how bad the bunkers are at PGC and how the new Titleist Vokey K Grind wedge I sold him was no good!

Naturally, I disagreed on both counts!

I find our bunkers fine and the Vokey K Grind is one of the best bunker clubs on the planet.

Vokey Sole Grind options can be seen here. Click on the image to enlarge.

Now it was time to put my money where my mouth is and take up the challenge of showing Anwoir that he was wrong! We had a session in the practice bunker playing from lies off varied amounts of sand from deep fluffy to hard pan no sand. With his technique, he failed on levels to execute the bunker shot in the desired fashion.

Once I had introduced some tweaks to his method, he executed the various bunker shots like Seve Ballesteros!

Try copying the set up you can see in the images above and try to strike the ball towards the toe of the club. If you are having bunker blues, don't hesitate to get in touch and let us help you.

More from the swing studio

With video analysis the statement "a picture tells a 100 words" is so correct. We have had a great week working with our members and visitors to improve their game.

Connor is doing great with his new backswing but was getting it all wrong into the impact position. Losing control of his high centre created all sorts of problems.

Below you can see the change to Connor's downswing with the left image being the problem.

Well done Connor, keep up the good work.
