Thrilling climax to one of the best days I've ever seen at Preston Golf Club
Golfing World presenter, Anna Whitely chatting with the events main sponsor David Culshaw of UK Carline.
Our greens staff completed the course preparation at first light and all other areas of the club were open ready for business, our many volunteers and caddies ready for action at 5.45am.
The morning started dull and wet as the first golfer was introduced to the 1st tee by Geoff Tomlinson, acting starter at 6.45am.
During the morning, the rain stopped and we were blessed with windy but pleasant conditions for the remainder of the day.
As the day progressed the club was a hub of activity with the best atmosphere I have seen at the club in all the 20 years as professional.
Scoring proved tricky and the best score of the day was 38 points but in the Trilby Tour rules, the first 4 placings battle it out for the title over a 3 hole playoff.
Our very own Chris Nelson was one of the 4 and with over 50 spectators following the group they headed out to battle over holes 1, 17 and 18.
Stood on the 18th tee one player held a 2 shot advantage over the 3 others but he made 7 and a fantastic birdie from the eventual winner where we saw a 3 shot swing in a super climax to a wonderful day.
The event will be screened in the autumn on Sky Sports. PGC received many compliments about the course, the event, the staff, facilities and the organisation of the day. The response from our members who came to view on the day was A1! The theatre that this event creates is like nothing I have ever seen before.
To all who helped make this event a huge success, a very big thank you from the club, the Trilby Tour and our event sponsors UK Carline. Our club has benefited from a new audience because of this event and the thought of our club being seen by 3.3 million viewers on Sky Sports is a very exciting prospect.
Foster Cup cancelledBad weather put pay to the Foster Cup on Saturday as heavy rain and prolonged periods of rain forecast for the whole day gave us no choice but to abandon play.
