Greetings! 

As I pen this note I celebrate the start of my 18th year as Professional at Preston Golf Club and I would like to thank you all for helping to make it such a great experience. 



I was thrilled to hear that the Preston Ladies swept the board at the Charity Cup competition played at Fishwick Golf Club on Sunday 4th September. 

Sarah Munro won the Charity Cup with a nett score of 67, Lynda Pilling finished runner up with a nett score of 68! Both ladies have put some time and effort into their game with Jamie and I so its great to see it paying off.

The Ladies also won the Livesey Trophy for the team of 12 and the Topping Trophy for the best 4 scores in any team. A huge well done ladies, from the professional team! 

The first round of the September Trophy saw Naoimh McMahon win with a solid score of 78-06-72. This makes it 2 wins in 2 for Naoimh who will also take part in 2 finals this weekend so best wishes to you! The winner of Division 2 was Duillia Smalley with nett score of 74. It's all to play for going into the second round! 

Charlie Rossiter was the winner of the Thursday medal returning a 67 nett closely followed by Andy Matheson who had an impressive 74 -06-68 to take second place. Keith Alston finished third with a score of 80-10-70 which reduced his handicap to single figures! Well done guys.

The second round of the Clemesha was played on Saturday 6th September and was very close at the top of the leader board! Two of Andrew's pupils, Stephen Mackenzie finished joint first alongside Russell Johnson with an overall nett score of 140. There will be a playoff to decide the winner of the competition! 

We look forward to Finals weekend played this Saturday and Sunday and wish all those taking part the very best of luck.



Do you wear your glove like this?

Today a member came in to the pro pro shop complaining about his glove wearing. This glove is a months old and my customer felt he should get a new glove Free Of Charge. I spent a few minutes explaining how the wear was a result of incorrect hold and proceeded to show him how he should be gripping the club. 

We then went onto the range and hit a few shots with the new grip and BINGO. Straighter, more powerful ball flight and a happy educated golfer who will now save money on glove purchases!

Equipment Survey

The weekend saw the first round of the Clemesha. In difficult conditions some great scores were produced.

Our junior section competed on Sunday for Junior Captains Prize, with Kieran Donnelly, Harry McNeilly and new member Jake Brown taking the prizes in their respective divisions. Well done to all who competed, it was great to see a healthy number of juniors playing. 

On Tuesday we hosted a Cobra Demo day a number of you enjoyed a FREE FITTING experience at the hands of Cobra's expert staff. One of our testers witnessed 24 yards distance increase between his old Cobra irons compared to the new Cobra Bio Cell irons. Boom!

Preston Golf Club Trips

Fancy enjoying some of the country's best golf course's? Being able to compete on Open and European qualifying courses? The Academy will be arranging days out to course's such as Ormskirk, St Anne's Old Links and Southport & Ainsdale to name a few at fantastic prices with prizes up for grabs also. 

The events will be a 4BBB format with members encouraged to invite friends from other clubs to enjoy the days. Tee times will vary but mornings tee times from 10am will be a good guide. 

Events will be open to all Members of Preston Golf Club (Ladies & Gents) and their guests. If you wish to be kept informed about these events please speak to Andrew, Peter or James at the Pro Shop.



Alan Stoker gains 20yds in 5 Mins!

I had the pleasure of Alan's company for a fairway and hybrid fitting this week. 

Alan had 2 hybrids in the bag at 19* and 21*. He was happy with the 21*, easy to hit and versatile and 165 yds but the 19* he didn't find as easy to hit and gave him 175yds. 

The next step was to find out how far Alan hit driver and this resulted in average 200yd carry, but I spotted his launch angle was low and his spin rate too high. Two technique tweaks later, the launch angle was up and the spin rate down and 20 yds added to the drive so now we have a driver at 220 yds and my task was to find a club for the fairway at 200yds. 

The Cobra Bio Cell set at 16* did the trick here and we complimented this with a new hot faced hybrid that delivered 180yds. Another happy customer who has benefited from talking to his to pro!
