Getting better in 2019 We all want to enjoy playing golf, and a big part of this is lowering our handicap. Yes, there will be times when your game isn't up to scratch and you go up .1 a few times in a row, but there'll also be times when all of the puzzle pieces fit and your handicap tumbles. |
What does your graph look like? As the year begins, it’s important to take stock and examine where you can improve your game going into the new season. There might be several areas that you want/need to work on, or maybe just two or three finer details that will take your game to the next level. Whatever those areas are, we're here to help. We can identify the key reasons you're not shooting the scores you want, as well as devise a personalised winter coaching plan to help iron out those faults and get you paying your best golf. So, if you want to see your handicap tumble in 2019, come down to the shop for a chat - you've got nothing to lose and everything to gain The Winter Practice Package - £120.00 This package Includes: 1 hour Club Gapping Service - Find out how far you really hit your clubs - Report of your distances provided 3 x 1 hour Practice sessions with the Professional in our swing studio. Battle of the Drivers 2019 Yes, it is that time of year when the manufacturers start shouting from the roof tops about the latest greatest driver in golf and this year it’s started earlier than ever. Some big statements from the leading brands will make for very interesting testing in the coming weeks. Titleist launched TS2 and TS3 at the back end of 2018 and we recently had a very successful fitting day. |
Callaway Callaway was huge for us last year with the fantastic Rogue metals. This year it is Epic flash that will fly the flag for Callaway. You can book into our Callaway fitting day on 28th January 3pm – 7pm – CLICK HERE TO BOOK or BOOK VIA THE PRO SHOP. |
Srixon Srixon are introducing a new metal wood range for 2019. We have tested this already and the results are superb. This is definitely one to look out for. |
TaylorMade TaylorMade introduce the new M5 & M6 drivers. |
Mizuno Mizuno are gathering momentum in the driver market so will it match up the quality of the irons? |
As always, you will be able to get fitted, get professional advice, get free tuition and spend correctly with the help of the team at Preston GC. Contact the team to book a fitting. |
Rogue vs. Epic Flash Here is our first comparison: The new Callaway Epic Flash looks very similar to the old FT driver’s which I was using up until 12 months ago (if you remember them). Although it’s a 460cc head it certainly doesn’t look as big or as bulky as some other brands and sits beautifully behind the ball. |
|
They’ve added a slideable weight to the back of the head for draw/fade bias as well as installing their infamous ‘Jailbreak’ technology to increase ball speed. To make it a fair test I used my original driver shaft in both heads and couldn’t believe the difference;
- +7mph ball speed - +18 yards carry - +18 yards overall
I’ve certainly got that new driver syndrome and can’t wait for mine to turn up.

Play with the Captain and Pro Back by popular demand, I’m pleased to announce that we are going to be doing another Captain and Pro series. It’s your chance to play 18 holes with Greg and myself from April through to September. Remember, it’s a completely free of charge few hours on the golf course where we hope to impart some of our knowledge and it’s genuinely a great opportunity for us to find out a little bit more about our members and get to know you better.
If you’d like to take part please to register your interest, please click here. In previous years it’s been extremely oversubscribed but we will try our best to accommodate everybody. If you have a specific month you would like to play, put it on the form along with your partners name. We look forward to playing with you.

Not all plain sailing It was a 9th PGA Tour win for tour favourite Matt Kuchar, as he claimed victory at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Kuchar carded a final round of 66, finishing on -22, four shots clear of Andrew Putnam in second place. It wasn’t all plain sailing for Kuchar, with bogeys in three of his first five holes on Sunday, but a resurgent back-nine saw a comfortable win in the end. It was Kuchar’s second win on tour this season, just 64 days after winning the Mayakoba Classic in November; a real change in fortunes, when you consider he had to wait four years between his seventh and eighth PGA Tour victories. On the Ladies European Tour, England’s Charley Hull took a wire-to-wire triumph at the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open in Abu Dhabi, for her second win on tour. It was a real test of nerve at the finish, with Hull splashing out of a bunker on the 18th, before saving par with a great putt to give her the win by one stroke. |
There’s no such thing as bad weather for golf – just a poor choice of clothing. You might have got away with the old ‘raincheck’ excuse a few years ago, but golf clothing has come a long way since then. All you need to do is make sure you’re properly layered up with golf-specific garments and you’re good to go. |
