Ladies news

Lady Captains Day 30th June 2019

Sunday saw Lady Captain Kate Crewdson host her day in dry but very blustery conditions.

The ever-popular drinks reception and canapes were on offer for guests and competitors which always starts the day off well

Kate was very generous as she presented all competitors with a celebration golf ball which include the club crest and event detail. In addition, all competitors were presented with a beautiful velour tri-fold towel which can be seen here.

In the evening, Kate hosted her celebration dinner and presentation for competitors and guests which I believe was great fun and enjoyed by all.

Jean Middleton claimed the top stop with a super score of nett 71.

You may recall Jean won my Professional Prize 2 weeks ago so she is in a rich run of form which is fantastic to see. Jean is delighted and has seen her handicap reduce to 23.

Well done Jean and congratulations from us all.

A new format saw all competitors tee off at the same time with a shotgun start which is a great idea for the social aspect of the day.

More Success for Preston Ladies

Preston Ladies Bronze Team enjoyed success at Blackpool North Shore on Monday 1 July at the Interclub NW Qualifier Event.

The Bronze Team (handicap 20.5 plus), was placed second to Royal Lytham & St.Annes out of 18 clubs taking part.

Both Royal Lytham and Preston now qualify for the Interclub Bronze Final which will be held on Friday 6 September at Nelson Golf Club.

Congratulations to the Team - Katie Crewdson (Overall 4th on the day), Jane Edwards, Kath Parkinson and Chris Taylor, and good luck in the final.

The Bronze Team join the Preston Ladies Handicap Team who have also qualified for the Handicap Interclub Final to be played at Nelson on the same day.

Club news

Fylde Scratch League

A quick mention goes to our scratch team who top the pile with 3 games to go.

This week’s 5-1 win this week against Ashton & Lea see’s PGC unbeaten at home during our 2 year stint in this league.

Two more home matches and one away match against Royal Lytham, leaves us sitting in a great position to take the league at what will be our 2nd attempt.

Macmillan 72 Hole Challenge

These guys have got stamina!

Last Friday, Captain Greg, Steve J Smith, Neil Chambers and Dave Rigby set out at 5am with the challenge of completing 72 holes in one day.

The reason:

Their challenge was complete by 8.30pm which is a super achievement and even more applauded due to the fact they raised money for such a worthy charity.

Well done chaps!

Is Your Game In Shape?

How are you playing just now? With the golfing season deep into action, it is important for you to be getting the most enjoyment from your game and playing your best golf.

We work with golfers every day who just need a little tweak to help get them back on track and sometimes the simple things can make a huge difference.

Ian was struggling with lots of shots going to the right rather than his normal draw flight. A few swings and a video clip showed his clubface at the top of the swing had got rather weak/open, bottom picture (toe pointing down).

In the top pic, you can see how we adjusted the face position, pointing a little more to the sky and this solved the problem. So if you are missing shots to the right, this could be a simple checkpoint for you to look at. Let us know if you need any help by chatting with a member of the team who will be only too happy to assist.

A classic piece of golfing attire is the club crested shirt, which is something we're able to offer you thanks to our friends at Glenmuir.

Are you focusing on the wrong thing?

As soon as the ball has left the putter face, we know whether it’s going to be good or not. It’s like a sixth sense, right? But what constitutes a good putt? Many golfers let the final outcome decide this – i.e. whether the ball ends up in the hole or not – but that is arguably well out of our control. So, perhaps it's time to refocus on what we can control?

There are only two things we can really control when it comes to putting. The first is starting the ball on the correct line. Take Tiger Woods for example; the 15-time major winner focuses on a blade of grass he wants the ball to roll over immediately in front of him, which brings the intended target much closer to impact.

The second is getting the ball rolling correctly, which means imparting top spin as quickly as possible after impact rather than having it jumping and skidding in the air.

One way to control our putting is by utilising the technology in TaylorMade’s stunning Spider X putter.
