Professional’s AmAm Results Thank you to all who played in the Pro’s AmAm on Friday at Preston Golf Club. We hope you had a fantastic day and enjoyed our golf course and facilities.
It was wonderful to hear the feedback from you about the condition of the course and the quality of the greens. Jonny Roberts and his team (although a reduced number of staff) really are doing a super job in presenting a quality golf course. My thanks to Sean who assisted me brilliantly at the Pro Shop and Driving Range ahead of your game and of course, Anna and the team who kept you fed and watered during the day. A mention to our two starters on the day, Mr Ray Farrer dressed up for the occasion and did a sterling job and Mark Jolly, our Vice President who as ever is always willing to do his bit for the club. Well done to everyone involved. Thirty one teams played in the event and there were some excellent scores. The Crewdson’s, Goddard and Fletcher led early on. These guys are great supporters of all our team events and often feature in the prizes. It must be the matching his and hers outfits of Ed and Katie that causes Ed to rise to the occasion. Then my good friend Christopher Hill and his trio of ladies put in a sterling effort with a score of 87 points. Jason Atherton brought sixteen golfers from Ashton In Makerfield Golf Club and on paper these guys looked strong but a few too many sausage rolls at the turn and the thought of a cold San Miguel seemed to distract them slightly. We had two teams from Kendal / Carus Green which included 2020 Captain Covid, Mr Wayne Park. These guys love coming to play at Preston and it’s always great to catch up with old friends. Although so much potential sat in these two teams, they struggled on the par 3 holes and didn’t quite rack up enough points to feature. During the day, two further teams came in with 87 points but fell short after a card playoff. A team consisting of Lora Fairclough and three delightful ladies. It was great to catch up with Lora who is playing a little more these days. Lora is a truly wonderful golfer who has achieved so much in women’s golf. Our very own Simon Edwards and his son Oli invited Jen Farrington ( 2020 Lady Captain - Pleasington ) and her husband Mike to make up their team . Young Oli played well and old Simon popped it round in 68 strokes to do his bit for the team. As the day drew to a close, it looked like the 87 points of Hill and company was going to be enough. But, as so often happens, the final group came in and took the lead with 91 points. The team, which consisted of four members, included Baptise, Pappa Hull and the father and son combination of Albo and Scott Maclean. A true team effort with all players contributing equally to the overall points for the day. A superb effort! Finally, on behalf of Preston Golf Club and myself, I would like to thank each and every one of you for supporting the event and we hope to see you again next year.
